Chelsea confirmed (official website) on Friday that defender Marc Guehi has departed Stamford Bridge on loan for the rest of the season.
The 19-year-old has linked up with Welsh outfit Swansea City, who currently sit sixth in the Championship table and are in a promotion bid.
He’s another highly-rated talent to come out of the Blues academy and has now exited on his first ever loan spell.
Guehi earned his first two senior appearances earlier in the season, as he featured in Carabao Cup games against Grimsby Town and Manchester United.
The quick centre-back impressed in the first-team with some imposing displays and he’s got an exceptional range of passing.
But it’s clear that his immediate path into the Chelsea team is blocked due to stiff competition in the heart of defence, so manager Frank Lampard has pulled off a masterstroke by loaning him to South Wales.
It looks a great deal on paper Guehi’s loan, first of all because he previously worked with Swansea manager Steve Cooper in the England system.
The England Under-21 international should be able to make a speedy impact at the Liberty Stadium and it will be no surprise to see him quickly force his way into the XI.
Chelsea also need their best young talents playing football and Guehi has every chance of taking his game up a level during six months with the Swans.
Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori will vouch for how useful a loan in the Championship can be to help catapult you to the Chelsea side.
