Chelsea fans are behind midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek perhaps more than any other player at Stamford Bridge right now.
It seems like the entire fanbase is willing the 22-year-old to nail down a spot in the first team and allowing the academy graduate to leave on loan or permanently would be considered a disaster.
The England international has managed to make his mark on the side in recent weeks and has now scored four goals in six games across all competitions.
Manager Maurizio Sarri has now made comments on him that will send supporters crazy with joy.
The Italian boss has stated that a loan exit in January now seems unlikely considering his game-time in recent weeks and hailed the huge potential he has.
“Ruben in October played four matches out of five. At the moment the situation is not for a loan of course,” Sarri said in his pre-match press conference.
“He has improved but needs to improve more from the tactical point of view. Physically, he has great characteristics: he is fast, solid, great impact, technically he is very good but if he wants to play as a midfielder he needs to improve in the defensive phase. The potential is great.”
Loftus-Cheek is a powerhouse that is a central midfielder by trade, but was used out on the wing in the cup win over Frank Lampard’s Derby in midweek and managed to impress.
He proved out on loan with Crystal Palace last season what most Chelsea fans already knew, which is that he deserves to be in the senior set-up.
There is of course incredible competition for places right now and he has to earn his starting position, but it certainly looks like things are on the rise for him.
