Made a smart save in first half but had the woodwork to thank for his clean sheet.

Davide Zappacosta: 6
OK delivery going forward but did not get to the byline much.
Gary Cahill: 6
Defended pretty well when called upon. But he never carried the ball forward which Rudiger does so well.
Andreas Christensen: 6
He refused the easy pass a lot. Perhaps this is an attempt to impress the manager. It almost cost him in the first half.
Emerson: 8
Top of the grades. He was quick and direct going forward as he burst into dangerous positions. Great cross for Giroud’s goal too.

Jorginho: 7
The Italian attempted more ambitious passes which was good to see. A lot of them came so close to coming off.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek: 5
Played things safe when he might have run with the ball more. A bit disappointing.
Ross Barkley: 5
Gave the ball away in his own half a few times. He did not do much of substance and passed sideways a lot.
Pedro: 6
Pretty ineffective although it was difficult against a Bate side that sat so deep.
Eden Hazard: 6
Played within himself as he comes back to full fitness. A useful outing for the weekend.

Olivier Giroud: 7
Took his goal excellently and had several good efforts. His link up play was as sharp as ever
