Chelsea return to action on Saturday at home to Newcastle United in the Premier League and will be looking to keep up the feel-good factor at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard’s team were beginning to hit their stride prior to the international break and they look an exciting threat this season.
Ross Barkley is a player that has been a victim to the introduction of new young talents to the side and found himself slip down the pecking order.
The 25-year-old attacking midfielder appears to be second best to academy graduate Mason Mount in the XI and not a regular starter for the Blues.
But he used the international break extremely well and once again proved the talent he possesses in an England shirt.
The playmaker came off the bench to deliver a bright cameo in the defeat to Czech Republic, while in the 6-0 hammering of Bulgaria he scored two and assisted another.
It looks like he may be able to continue that momentum for Chelsea at the weekend and he simply has to show some top form for his club side.
According to the Evening Standard, key midfielder N’Golo Kante may not be risked against Newcastle United due to an injury concern and kept in reserve for next week against Ajax in the Champions League group stages.
It is understood that Mateo Kovacic will also be monitored after picking up a problem away on international duty with Croatia.
The report states that Barkley “may” get recalled to the side by Lampard.
He could potentially form a midfield trio alongside Mount and Jorginho, which is an attacking unit that should be able to cause serious Newcastle problems.
Barkley has just one goal in eight appearances this season for the Blues and often goes missing, which is why it’s crucial he tries replicate his international form or he could really struggle for frequent minutes in the future.
