Marcos Alonso has been ruled out of the Premier League game at home to Brighton on Wednesday night – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter are overjoyed with the injury news.

Blues manager Maurizio Sarri has confirmed (official Twitter) that the defender will rest for three to four days due to a hamstring problem, which means he will be out of contention against Brighton.

The left-back played in the 2-1 victory over Cardiff City at the weekend and did manage an assist in the late comeback win.

Alonso has been battling with teammate Emerson Palmieri for the full-back spot this campaign and the latter may be primed for his opportunity against Brighton.

Alonso has been extremely unpopular with some fans during this season and reacting positively to an injury blow is a real low point.

The 28-year-old appears to have completely lost the faith of some supporters, but he’s still been a regular in the first team under Sarri and has made 34 senior appearances this season.

His defensive ability has always been under question and he looks far more comfortable in a wing-back role, but going forward he was guilty of some really poor moments against Cardiff.

It’s hard to see that Alonso has gone from a key player in a title-winning season under Antonio conte, to someone that is one of the main villains this year.
