Thiago Silva was at it again yesterday in Chelsea’s win against Lille.
The Blues defender put in another masterclass performance during his side’s 2-0 win at home to Lille, which gives them a strong lead in the Champions League last-16 tie. Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic each scored in the first leg of the contest.
For Silva, he starred in the heart of the back three to help keep a clean sheet. It’s become a familiar occurrence under manager Thomas Tuchel, particularly in European matches, not to concede.
Silva, making his 30th appearance of the season already, proved to be a constant thorn in the side of French visitors Lille.
The 37-year-old centre-back always seems to be in the right place to make defensive blocks and interceptions.
He may be towards the latter stages of his career, but there’s definitely no signs of him slowing down anytime soon.

Silva breaks own CL record in Chelsea shirt
Last night’s performance from Silva even saw him break a personal achievement, according to statisticians OptaJoe.
The Brazilian centre-half ended up winning possession from Lille 12 times during the match, which is his highest ever tally in a Champions League game.
He’s made 94 appearances and counting in Europe’s elite club competition from his time with Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.
There can be plenty of discussions about Chelsea’s best combination when they play with a back three, but the two of Silva and Antonio Ruddier are nailed on within that.
Andreas Christensen, who often goes under the radar, put in a strong display in this week’s Lille win.
Elsewhere, you could easily throw Trevoh Chalobah or club captain Cesar Azpilicueta into the mix to form a superb backline.
