Chelsea travel to Southampton on Sunday afternoon for a Premier League fixture and it would be great to claim three points before the internatonal break.
The Blues have enjoyed some strong form recently and should be looking to continue climbing up the league table, where they currently sit seventh after seven rounds of fixtures.
Upcoming opponents Southampton sit 14th after a mixed start to the new campaign and they are yet to hit top form.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have been dangerous on the road so far this campaign, but have just one point in their three home games and that does not bode well for them ahead of their next match this weekend at St Mary’s.
They do possess some quality players in their squad though and there are a number of individuals that Chelsea need to be wary of if they want to come away with the win.
Here are three key Southampton individuals:
Ings is someone that has been plagued through injury during his career, but when he’s on form he is a real handful and he could be a major threat this weekend.
The in-form centre-forward has three goals in his last two games across all competitions and should be full of confidence ahead of the weekend.
He netted twice in a cup match against rivals Portsmouth and also scored against Tottenham after pouncing on a mistake from their goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
The 27-year-old will show a tremendous work-rate if he leads the line for Southampton and Chelsea defenders need to be aware they won’t have much time when in possession if he’s around them.
Vestergaard is a man mountain that is a regular in the Southampton defence and he’s going to be a real handful for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham to deal with.
The 27-year-old is a powerhouse centre-back that takes no prisoners with his physical approach and is a real consistent performer.
He’s started every league game this campaign and is someone that is a natural fit in the Premier League.
The Blues may need to be a little cuter around the penalty area with the commanding defender in the box.
Redmond is an extremely talented individual at Southampton that will cause Chelsea problems with his pace and directness, so limiting his time on the ball would be wise for Frank Lampard’s team.
He’s a versatile attacker that can play anywhere across the frontline and he’s perhaps the biggest threat for the Saints.
Chelsea’s full-backs need to be wary of his pace if he drops into wide areas, while centre-back Fikayo Tomori has the speed to cope with him on the last shoulder.
Redmond is definitely capable of dropping a quality performance on his day and hopefully for Chelsea that’s not the case on Sunday.
