Tuchel should unleash Chelsea player tonight who desperately needs minutes - TCC View
Chelsea will wrap up their Champions League group away to Zenit tonight, which is the perfect game for Timo Werner to come into the starting line-up.
Chelsea’s qualification to the knockout rounds is already sealed, but top spot is still up for grabs.
The Blues have travelled to Russia without five first-team players. Jorginho, Ben Chilwell, Trevoh Chalobah and N’Golo Kante are sidelined through injury. Also, Mateo Kovacic is self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19.
Thomas Tuchel is in the difficult position right now as the club’s manager of trying to balance freshness and form when picking his starting XI.
The German boss has options in his squad to rotate even with injury problems, though, so it’s going to be intriguing when it comes to his midweek selection in a match against Zenit that has plenty on the line.
RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.
Chelsea should unleash Werner
Blues fans have seen most of the squad in action during the last month because of the busy fixture list, but it feels like Werner is being held back a touch.
The 25-year-old attacker has been available for the club’s last five games after an injury problem, starting just one and featuring off the bench in one other.
Unfortunately, the German speedster has spent a lot of time watching with the substitutes. Ex-Blues assistant Jody Morris previously raised his concern about Werner’s role in the team.
However, the Zenit tie feels like the right time to recall him.
Werner desperately needs some minutes on the field to try get some momentum back in his game and it’s very evident during nearly 18 months at Stamford Bridge that he’s a confidence player.
He’s an option to play as the central striker or an inverted winger, so Tuchel should try find room for him this evening.
Of course, his pace, directness and energy should test an opposition in Zenit who may be brave in and out of possession.
