For many, Chelsea youngster Mason Mount is the poster boy of this current side.
The 23-year-old’s an extremely popular figure after coming through the academy, as well as being an England international that speaks well in front of the camera.
However, he’s got a fierce competitive side about him that perhaps goes under the radar.
It’s been flagged on Twitter what Mount did during Chelsea’s 1-0 win yesterday against Al Hilal in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-finals.
Opposition full-back Yasser Al-Shahrani went flying into a challenge with Cesar Azpilicueta in the 83rd minute for an aerial ball, completely clattering the Chelsea captain in the process.
There were some quite fiery verbals exchanged between Al-Shahran and Mount in the aftermath, with the latter sticking up passionately for his Chelsea teammate.
This is exactly the kind of behaviour that Blues fans will love to see.
Mount’s not the biggest in size. However, he’s got the ultimate winning mentality that can come out in exchanges with opposition players.
Interestingly, Pat Nevin picked up on commentary that the attacking midfielder looked visibly angry after coming on as a substitute.

Potential future Chelsea captain
Eventually, Chelsea will need to find a new long-term skipper to take the armband from Azpilicueta.
The Spaniard’s a silent captain that leads by example with his actions on and off the pitch, so it’ll be interesting to see if his successor is the same.
There is no doubt Mount bleeds blue and would make a great candidate.
He’s captained the senior team on a few occasions, and it’s definitely something that would go down well with plenty of the fanbase if it becomes a permanent thing.
The way has confronted an opponent against Al Hilal shows his heart and determination, which is understandable given he’s a boyhood Chelsea fan himself.
It’s great to see this is a close-knit group that defend each other on the pitch.
