Chelsea travel to Anfield on Sunday for a colossal fixture against Liverpool and will be looking to keep a strong run of form going.

The Blues have won their last three consecutive league fixtures, while on Thursday night a much-changed side managed to secure a 1-0 victory away to Slavia Prague in the first leg of a Europa League quarter-final.

Manager Maurizio Sarri left several key players out of the starting XI against Slavia Prague and the fact Ruben Loftus-Cheek was demoted to the bench suggests he’s slowly becoming a key player.

Loftus-Cheek has started the last two consecutive league games, scoring a goal and supplying two assists in them to impress the boss.

The 23-year-old central midfielder has all the potential to become a nailed on starter for Chelsea and is a Rolls-Royce in the centre of the park.

If Sarri opts to go with the England international against Liverpool, it could be the perfect game for him to come of age and lay down a marker to his manager against one of the best teams in Europe right now.

Loftus-Cheek has to start every key match if he performs against Liverpool and there is no doubting he’s got he qualities to do so.

The academy graduate is a midfielder that offers a physical presence that makes him so hard to tackle, while he is a goal threat too and can beat a man.

Chelsea are going to need someone like him to compete with Liverpool’s tireless midfield trio and he can outshine them if he turns up.

Chelsea fans have been crying out for years for Loftus-Cheek to be the ‘next Frank Lampard’ and perhaps Sunday will mark the start of him becoming a mainstay in the team.
