Chelsea fell to a 2-1 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday night – and some fans on Twitter decided to destroy defender Marcos Alonso for his performance.

The Blues have now lost two of their last three games in the Premier League, as they let a one goal lead slip at Molineux.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s shot deflected in off Conor Coady to get visitors Chelsea the lead in the first-half, but the hosts turned the game on its head within four second-half minutes.

Raul Jimenez netted a low strike in the 59th minute to equalise for Wolves before Diogo Jota fired in his first Premier League goal at the back post.

Maurizio Sarri’s side have seen Tottenham leapfrog them in the table as they were dealt a blow in the top four race and Arsenal drew level on points with them.

Alonso was one of the players on social media to come in for major criticism for his latest display and his form has nosedived in recent weeks since extending his contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 27-year-old left-back showed he lacks pace in defensive areas and also failed to create much going forward, with his crossing a weak area.

Some Chelsea fans have suggested that teammate Emerson Palmieri replaces him in the starting XI, but that would be a bold Sarri decision with Manchester City at home at the weekend.
