Despite a stunning penalty save in the crucial 2-2 draw with Valencia, some Chelsea fans on Twitter remain unconvinced by Kepa Arrizabalaga’s recent performances.
The Blues picked up a valuable point in the Champions League away in Valencia. They will qualify for the last-16 if they can defeat already knocked out Lille OSC in the final game week.
Spanish goalkeeper Kepa had a mixed evening and it could be argued that he was at fault for both goals. The first, from Carlos Soler, squirmed under his hand, and the second glided over his head as he pulled his hands out of the way.
However, on the 64th minute, Kepa was the hero as he pulled off a wonderful save from a Daniel Parejo penalty. Had the penalty gone in, it could have been a serious turning point in the game, and Chelsea may not have earned a draw.
When he signed for the Blues in a deal worth around £71 million in August 2018 from Athletic Bilbao, Kepa become the club’s record signing and the most expensive goalkeeper of all time.
His first season in Chelsea blue went well, as the club finished 3rd and won the Europa League. The penalty heroics against Eintracht Frankfurt in the semi-finals of the competition were a particular highlight.
Despite the infamous Carabao Cup final shootout debacle, where it appeared Kepa refused to be substituted late in the game, the consensus on the young Spaniard was positive.
Blues fans will have been hoping for more from the 25-year-old this season, but some poor distribution and problems with shot-stopping have led to questions being asked.
Here are some Chelsea fans reactions to Kepa’s recent form:
I find it funny when people complain bitterly about Kepa like he was a top goalie. Never been good from Day 1. Average, lucky to be at Chelsea FC. #VALCHE

Kepa is part of the reason we conceded two goals and also part of the reason we only conceded two goals. Strange performance. Needs to just do the basics right for now.

Kepa’s Prevented us from Losing & Winning at the Same Time. Not a Great Day for him. #cfc

Impossible to understand how Kepa is the world's most expensive GK.
He makes the odd spectacular save, but it's not enough.
Statistically poor this season and last, weak wrists, bad at coming for crosses, and poor distribution for someone who's supposedly great with his feet.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is probably the most confusing goalkeeper on the planet.
