Frank Lampard names 24-man Chelsea squad for Real Madrid clash

Chelsea caretaker manager Frank Lampard has named his 24-man travelling squad for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final first-leg match against Real Madrid.

The Blues face a big task against the defending champions at Santiago Bernabeu, and Lampard‘s squad selection reflects exactly that.

The caretaker manager is not taking any risk by bringing any academy player to Spain, with Thiago Silva, Mason Mount, N’Golo Kante, and Cesar Azpilicueta, who took part in Tuesday’s morning training session after missing Saturday’s match against Wolves all making the trip.

The only surprise is that Marcus Bettinelli who did not take part in group training still travelled with the rest of the squad.

That said, it seems very unlikely that the former Fulham shot-stopper will be involved in the game since both Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy are available.

The biggest problem arguably lies in the centre-forward position with Kai Havertz being the only obvious option, since both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and David Datro Fofana are not registered for the competition.

Havertz is still leading the club’s goalscoring chart this season, but his recent form is concerning, having failed to score in the last three games.
