Joe Cole was full of praise for Ben Chilwell after the Chelsea star’s performance last night against Borussia Dortmund.

Chelsea beat Dortmund 2-0 at Stamford Bridge yesterday, which was enough to overturn a one-goal deficit in the two-legged Champions League last-16 tie.

Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz were the heroes on the night with a goal apiece.

It means Graham Potter and his side can now look forward to the quarter-finals in Europe’s top club competition.

BT Sport pundit Cole enjoyed a warm embrace with Chilwell on the pitch immediately after Chelsea’s result last night.

The former Blues star applauded his performance, too.

“Well done, Ben. Well done. Different class!” Cole said on BT Sport 1 (10:10pm, 7 March).

Incidentally, Mason Mount also praised Chilwell after watching his teammate’s midweek efforts.

Ben Chilwell hitting purple patch

Chilwell provided a match-winning assist against Leeds on the weekend in the league. He was at it again last night by assisting Sterling’s opening goal, too.

The 26-year-old star’s return to the XI has been so vital, especially since Potter decided to change formation to accommodate three centre-backs and a pair of wing-backs.

Chilwell, who’s already won one Champions League, was the star of the show against Dortmund from the left wing-back role.

The England international is so effective in both halves of the pitch when he plays as a wing-back. Likewise, you could say the same about Reece James on the opposite flank.
