Chelsea trio Antonio Rudiger, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz were their team’s outstanding performers last night in a Champions League classic against Real Madrid, according to Spanish media.
Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side put on a memorable display on Tuesday night on their visit to the Bernabeu in the Champions League quarter-finals, albeit they saw their dreams ended in extra time.
The Blues were leading Madrid 3-1 in their own stadium after 90 minutes yesterday, which was a complete reversal of the scoreline at Stamford Bridge last week in the first leg.
Unfortunately, hosts Madrid rallied in extra time to find a winning goal through Karim Benzema to clinch the tie 5-4 on aggregate.
Spanish publication Marca released their player ratings after the game, with three Chelsea players earning top marks. They handed out the top rating of three stars to Blues individuals Rudiger, Mount and Havertz.
Powerhouse centre-back Rudiger, described by Chelsea boss Tuchel as “outstanding” after the game, scored and defended excellently.
Elsewhere, attacking midfielder Mount continued his great season with another goal and assist. It means he’s now hit a combined total of 25 goals and assists this campaign across all competitions.
Finally, attacker Havertz ran his socks off for 120 minutes with some great pressing and looked a creative threat.
It’s worth pointing out that the likes of Reece James, Mateo Kovacic and Marcos Alonso were Chelsea teammates that delivered outstanding performances themselves in the Spanish capital.

Mount and Havertz can be long-term Chelsea successes
There’s no doubt that Mount and Havertz have enough quality for Chelsea to build the team around them.
Mount, 23, turned up on the biggest stage once again to silence doubters. The England star is definitely still improving as a player and is a ridiculous talent.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old left-footer Havertz now looks like he belongs in the best XI. It didn’t quite fall for him in Madrid, but Blues supporters are now seeing what all the hype was about in Germany before he signed.
