For Ben Chilwell, he’s been a massive success one year after he signed as a Chelsea player.
The defender showed few nerves during his debut campaign last year with the step up from Leicester City to Stamford Bridge, and he justified why he cost £50million.
However, he finds himself in a bit of a tricky situation.
The 24-year-old has been an unused substitute in the opening two games of this new Premier League season. His teammate Marcos Alonso is getting the nod right now at left wing-back. Also, he was left on the bench for the UEFA Super Cup final win against Villarreal.
He’s received some more bad news on Thursday with the announcement that he’s been left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming international break.
Chilwell was part of the England group in the summer at Euro 2020, albeit he didn’t get any minutes on the pitch.
The full-back is now in the concerning position that he’s not played in a competitive match since he was part of the brilliant Chelsea XI that won the Champions League final back on 29 May against Manchester City.

Only a matter of time until Ben Chilwell bounces back
Chilwell is just shy of three months without any competitive football, which must be playing on his mind.
Fortunately, he knows that it’s not all doom and gloom because he had to fight for the starting position at Chelsea during last season when Thomas Tuchel took charge as manager.
Blues full-back Alonso looks in strong form right now, but it’s not unimaginable to think Chilwell could be back into the side this weekend.
Chelsea travel to Anfield on Saturday to face Liverpool in the Premier League. Therefore, the team may need to be a little sterner defensively.
Chilwell will have set out his own goals for his second season as a Chelsea player and he’ll overcome what is a minor blip. He will need to use the disappointment of his England axe as extra motivation.
