Mark Schwarzer has shared an intriguing conversation he’s had with Petr Cech about current Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Ex-Blues man Schwarzer had a brief spell at Stamford Bridge towards the back end of his playing career as a goalkeeper. Meanwhile, legendary figure Cech is regarded by plenty as Chelsea’s best ever goalkeeper.

Cech, who currently works as Chelsea’s technical and performance advisor, has apparently said that Kepa is playing some of the best football of his career.

The 27-year-old is stuck as the second-choice goalkeeper right now at the Bridge, though, with Edouard Mendy the outstanding number one pick. However, the Spaniard has done a solid job when called upon by his manager Thomas Tuchel.

“What Petr was saying to me was about the relationship between Kepa and Mendy. Kepa is actually playing the best football he’s played, full stop, in his whole career, but can’t get in the team because Mendy has been so good,” Schwarzer told Optus Sport.

Kepa continues form against Southampton

It’s quite telling that even some Southampton fans were praising Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa for his performance against them on Tuesday night.

The Spanish shot-stopper helped inspire Tuchel’s side to victory in the Carabao Cup Round of 16. He played a pivotal role during 90 minutes in keeping the game level, making a couple of incredible late saves.

His save from Theo Walcott during the penalty shootout was key before Reece James scored the winner for Chelsea.

He’s doing an incredible job as the goalkeeper Tuchel can trust in cup matches.

Goalkeeper union strong at Chelsea

For Mendy and Kepa, it must be brilliant have an iconic figure like Cech around the club.

Chelsea have one of the world’s elite goalkeepers right now with in-form ace Mendy, who doesn’t look like conceding whenever he’s in-between the sticks.

It’s clear that Kepa is regaining confidence with every match he plays, too.
