Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has thanked his fans for their support after making the 10-man shortlist for the prestigious 2021 Yachine Trophy.
After such a successful end to last season, several Chelsea players are nominated for the France Football awards; the Ballon d’Or and the Yachine Trophy.
Mendy, who has impressively kept 19 clean sheets from 34 Premier League and Champions League games in this calendar year, should be a strong candidate to win the Yachine Trophy, which is specifically for goalkeepers.
“I am very proud and honoured to be part of the 10 nominees for the Yachine Trophy,” the Senegal international wrote on Instagram.
“We won a lot of titles this year, it makes this season special.”
“It is, for me, an additional motivation to do even more and keep on working hard to maintain such a high-level performance with Chelsea and my national Senegalese team.
“Thank you, everyone, for your messages and support.”
Mendy has also recently won UEFA’s goalkeeper of the season award, further cementing his status among elite shot-stoppers.
While five of his Blues teammates made the 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist: N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mason Mount, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Romelu Lukaku.
Kante and Jorginho, in particular, are among the favourites to win the award.
Similar to Mendy, these two also received UEFA awards in August; Champions League midfielder of the season and UEFA men’s player of the year, respectively.
