Chelsea midfielder Jorginho’s agent Joao Santos said his client would consider joining Juventus and a return to Italy despite prioritising staying at Stamford Bridge.

As it stands, there are a few Chelsea players whose contract situations will need more immediate attention from the club, such as Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, and Cesar Azpilicueta.

The club, which currently operates on a special licence given by the UK government, cannot offer new contracts or sign replacements, at least for now.

The three defenders who are in the final months of their contracts aside, Chelsea will soon have to shift their attention to players whose contracts expire in 2023, hopefully soon as reports suggest the sale process of the club has now entered its second stage.

This includes a few key players such as Thiago Silva, who signed a new short-term deal in December, N’Golo Kante, and Jorginho.

Kante and Jorginho have entered their 30s, and it remains unclear whether the Blues tend to offer one-year contracts to players at their age.

Thomas Tuchel clearly sees the midfielder pair as key members of his squad, however, and the club may make exceptions for them.

Still, at least in Jorginho’s case, he may consider other options unless Chelsea make an offer soon, according to his agent Santos.

“Chelsea’s philosophy is to do contract renewals at the last minute,” the agent told Qui Studio a Voi Stadio (via Football Italia).

“The priority is to renew with the Blues, otherwise he will return to Serie A.

“The desire to come back and play in Italy is always there.”

Asked about the possibility of joining Juventus, Santos added: “They would be taken into consideration.”

The Italy international has the third-most minutes among Chelsea outfield players in the Premier League this season (after Rudiger and Silva), which highlights the prominent role he plays under Tuchel.

The prospective Chelsea owner may also completely change their contract renewal policy for their veterans, which would spell good news for Jorginho.
