Alan Shearer has claimed to Optus Sports that the decision to bring Frank Lampard back as temporary manager is a sign of ‘typical Chelsea’ from the last few years.

An extraordinary turn of events has seen it likely that the club legend is set to return to the club for a third time, this time as a temporary manager.

The decision will allow the owners to take their time over deciding who will become the next permanent man in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have emerged as the favourites for the job for the next campaign. The Spaniard even travelled to London yesterday for further talks with the club.

While they make that decision though, Lampard will be tasked with bringing some good feeling back to the club.

This could be completed in the Champions League, with them set to face Real Madrid in the first leg of the quarter-final next week.

Shearer has claimed it’s a no-brainer for Lampard to take the role, saying he was currently going to be struggling to find another job at the top level.

He said: “Typical Chelsea isn’t it. For the football club who sacked him a couple of years ago, I know it was a different owner but for a new owner to come in and do what he has done and spend that ridiculous amount of money on so many players, which makes it so difficult for a manger, and then sack a manager after appointing him. It’s typical Chelsea.

“From Frank’s point of view, it’s probably a no brainer, he probably didn’t have to think about it for that long. At the highest level he’s probably going to struggle to get back, so this is an opportunity where they are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and you just never know. It’s been done before at Chelsea so from his point of view it’s probably a no brainer.”

It has been claimed that the Englishman is set to be in the dugout for Saturday’s league game against Wolves, the place where he picked up arguably his most impressive win in his first spell.
