Ashley Cole gave Chelsea youngster Mason Mount a special mention following his performance on Saturday night, as he helped Chelsea get back on track in the Premier League with a much-needed 3-0 home win against Watford.
Frank Lampard’s side sit fourth in the division standings with five league games remaining and picked up a vital three points over the weekend against struggling Watford.
Experienced duo Olivier Giroud and Willian netted first-half goals for the hosts, before Ross Barkley added a third in the second period.
Blues legend Cole, who won trophies such as the Champions League and Premier League during his playing career at Stamford Bridge, singled out Mount for his eye-catching contribution against Watford.
“Mason was brilliant again today. He keeps it ticking for the team, keeps the ball moving quick and he was one of the top performers,” Cole told Sky Sports’ Main Event channel (10:10pm, 4 July).
Mount was back in the starting XI for the Watford clash and he made a significant impact during his 76 minutes of action to vindicate the decision.
The 21-year-old academy graduate played in an advanced midfield role next to Barkley in the centre, with the tireless defensive cover of Kante sat behind them for protection.
He was involved in the opening goal with a precise through ball in the build up, as well as looking positive in possession in his display and putting in a real shift to get around the pitch.
Mount has now made 46 first-team appearances for the Blues so far this season to highlight his significant to manager Lampard, something which is even more impressive considering it’s his first campaign at top-flight level.
The six-time capped England international pressed forward from the centre of the park to get Chelsea on the front foot and a lot of his hard work is easy to overlook.
