Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell admits that it will be difficult for the Blues to replace Antonio Rudiger who has left Stamford Bridge to complete his “dream” move to Real Madrid this summer.
Real Madrid confirmed Rudiger’s arrival on a free transfer over a month ago, and Chelsea have yet to bring in any player to replace him since.
Obviously, it was always going to be difficult for the new Chelsea ownership group to make any quick decision after completing the takeover, but Rudiger’s exit clearly left a huge void in Thomas Tuchel’s plans ahead of the new season.
Chilwell highlighted the potential impact that the lack of Rudiger’s presence could have on the team but still understand why the former AS Roma star made the decision.

“Of course, he’s going to be difficult to replace,” the England international told The Guardian when asked about Rudiger’s departure.
“Toni was one of the most influential players in the team last year, not just for his performances on the pitch, which were amazing week in, week out.
“Around the training ground, then the dressing room before games making sure that everyone keeps their standards – I’ve only got good things to say about Toni.
“I think Chelsea will always have a place in his heart. But it was probably a dream for him to move to Madrid so good luck to him.”

Tuchel has named Levi Colwill, who could be his new left centre-back option next season, in the 29-man Chelsea squad for the pre-season tour in the United States.
The 19-year-old had an impressive loan spell at Huddersfield Town last season and is clearly rated very highly by the manager.
Still, the only other alternative Tuchel has for the left centre-back role is Malang Sarr, who was rather underwhelming last term, and ideally, Chelsea would have another experienced option alongside Colwill.
