Mason Mount made Jamie Redknapp’s Sky Sports Premier League team of the year for his consistent performances in a Chelsea shirt.
Mount strode through the season with real purpose, occasionally dragging the Blues behind him.
He made more league appearances than any of his teammates for a second campaign running.
The 22-year-old finished runner up behind Jorginho as top goalscorer and Timo Werner for chief assister.
According to WhoScored.com, only Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes (95) made more key passes in the top flight than Mount (87).
Despite this, Redknapp chose the Chelsea youngster ahead of United’s talisman for his TOTS.
“In midfield, Mason Mount has been brilliant this season for both Frank Lampard and Thomas Tuchel,” said the former Liverpool midfielder.
“He’s so consistent – and gets in ahead of Bruno Fernandes, for me, as a lot of Fernandes’ goals have gone from penalties.”
Paul Merson clearly agreed with Redknapp as he too left out Fernandes in favour of Mount.
Although plenty of other pundits picked the Portuguese creator over Chelsea’s maestro, the fact he’s even in the conversation speaks volumes of his quality.
Blues supporters already made their voices heard by voting Mount as their star of the season.
Fernandes himself admitted to United’s official website that the England talent should be in with a shout for the league’s top individual honour.
“I really like Mason Mount – he’s been consistent from the beginning of the season but, if people will watch numbers he’s not had so many goals as other players or assists as other players but, for me, as a performance he’s been really, really top.”
