‘Came back clear’: Chelsea player is not injured, scans were all good this morning

Chelsea fans endured a tough afternoon on Saturday as Nottingham Forest recorded a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge, and there were concerns about Levi Colwill after the game.

Some rumours emerged online that the Chelsea No.26 could be facing a spell on the sidelines due to a hamstring injury.

Now – thanks to The Secret Scout – there has been an update.

So, what is the latest on Levi Colwill? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the 20-year-old underwent a scan after Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Fortunately for Mauricio Pochettino, everything came back clear, and Colwill is now leaving west London to team up with Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the international break.

Had Chelsea lost the centre-back for an extended period of time, it would have added salt to the wounds after a disappointing start to the 2023/24 campaign.

Pochettino has Trevoh Chalobah to call upon in case of any injuries to his central defenders – after he rejected a deadline day move to Nottingham Forest.

However, Colwill is Chelsea’s only left-footed central defender, so the balance he brings to the side is key.

Mauricio Pochettino has to move Levi Colwill at Chelsea

For some reason, Pochettino played Ben Chilwell as a winger against Nottingham Forest, and Colwill was deployed at left-back.

That made the Blues look very unbalanced, and meant Chelsea only actually had two recognised attackers starting the game in Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling.

In our view, Pochettino needs to play Colwill as a left sided centre-back, as that is where he can exploit gaps by punching passes through the lines.

At left-back, it’s harder to find these angles, and Colwill also isn’t the quickest defender, so a full-back role does not suit him.

Hopefully, Pochettino analyses the defeat to Nottingham Forest over the international break, and makes the appropriate changes.
