With a spate of midfield injuries currently in the first-team squad, the teenager has surely played his way into Frank Lampard’s plans.

Ex-Chelsea maestro Fabregas weighed in with his praise for Gilmour after his midfield exhibition in the cup.

Gilmour needs to ensure that the spotlight doesn’t become too much for him, but he looks like a grounded individual that will continue to work hard and Lampard is willing to reward youngsters that are good enough.

The midfielder should be eyeing a first Premier League start on Sunday at home to Everton and it would be great to see if he can impress again.

It was only his sixth senior appearance of the season across all competitions against Liverpool and supporters must try avoid the pressure of putting too much on his shoulders yet, as he is going to make mistakes and will only improve with more experience.
