Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Mason Mount sustained an ankle injury and hurt his ligaments “badly” during the Club World Cup final against Palmeiras on Saturday.
The 23-year-old was on the pitch for half an hour before being replaced by Christian Pulisic in the first half.
During the celebrations, Mount was also seen with his right foot bandaged.
Obviously, the midfielder was in a good mood after such a historic win, but Mount was clearly limping off as he walked away in a video from Ben Chilwell’s Instagram stories.
The Athletic’s Simon Jonson also claimed that the England international left the stadium in crutches.
Tuchel confirmed that there will be further examinations but admitted Mount was in a lot of pain during the game.

“He was injured,” the German said in his post-match press conference about Mount’s early substitution.
“An opponent fell on his ankle and he hurt his ligaments badly. So, we have to see.
“He came straight to me and said that it felt very stiff and painful, and he didn’t know if he could continue.
“So we had to make the decision.”

Mount has been one of the Chelsea players with the cleanest injury record in recent years, so it is hopefully just a minor injury.
According to Transfermarkt, Mount has only missed four games through injury since breaking into the first team in 2019 — which is incredible given how the amount of games he has played since.
