Chelsea confirm Club World Cup plans as Tuchel tests positive for Covid-19

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel might still fly to Abu Dhabi for the Club World Cup next week despite having tested positive for Covid-19 ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup clash against Plymouth Argyle.

The Blues, via their official website, have confirmed that the German will follow the self-isolation protocols.

This means Tuchel will be absent in the FA Cup fourth-round tie against Plymouth, as well as the Club World Cup semifinal on Wednesday.

The manager also will not travel with the squad since the players are going to fly to Abu Dhabi, after the Plymouth game.

However, the official statement also mentioned that Tuchel may still join the squad in the UAE, provided that he tests negative for Covid-19 and Chelsea reach the final of the Club World Cup which will take place on Saturday.

It remains unclear who will lead the team during Tuchel’s absence, but the most likely candidates are Arno Michels and Zsolt Low.

Michels has worked with Tuchel’s far longer than Low, though, having been part of the former Paris Saint-Germain’s team since 2009.
