Chelsea confirm Mount retains player of the season title as centre-back comes close second
Chelsea have officially announced Mason Mount as their men’s player of the season following Sunday’s 2-1 win over Watford.
It is a deserved recognition for Mount who became the youngest Chelsea player to register at least 10 goals and 10 assists in a Premier League season at 23.
Not only that he leads the goal (11) and assist (12) charts at Chelsea in the Premier League, he has also created more chances than anyone in the squad.
Overall, he finished the season with 29 goal contributions in all competitions for Chelsea.
This means now Mount is only the fifth player to win consecutive Chelsea player of the season awards, after Ray Wilkins, Frank Lampard, Juan Mata, and Eden Hazard.
According to the club’s official website, Thiago Silva ranks a close second behind Mount based on online votes from the fans.
Silva would have been a deserved winner as well, having arguably been the most consistent performer for the Blues this season.
Prior to the game, Chelsea already announced Sam Kerr and Harvey Vale as women’s and academy’s players of the season, respectively.
