Chelsea fans discuss loan star Conor Gallagher after West Brom defeat

Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher was unable to prevent West Brom suffering a crushing defeat at home to Leeds United on Tuesday – and some Blues fans on Twitter discussed his future after the result.

Gallagher, 20, is a highly-rated talent to come through the academy system at Chelsea and he spent last year out on loan in the Championship during spells with both Charlton Athletic and Swansea City.

The central midfielder joined West Brom in the summer window on a season-long loan, where he’s been given his first opportunity at top-flight level.

He’s become a nailed-on starter for the Baggies and one of the first names on the team sheet, but he’s playing in a side battling relegation.

West Brom, who have already replaced Slaven Bilic with Sam Allardyce as their manager this season, are currently 19th in the Premier League table five points from safety.

They suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat at home to Leeds yesterday and it’s a team right now that has a big task ahead of them to avoid relegation.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media have suggested that Gallagher has far too much quality to be playing for a struggling West Brom side and some suggest he should be recalled in January to allow for a move elsewhere.

He is an all-action central midfielder with an immense work-rate and a goal threat around the box, which is why it would be no surprise to see a queue of clubs for him if he did become available.

The Englishman looks like he’s got the potential to be a future first-team player at Stamford Bridge and Frank Lampard’s side need to weigh up what is best for his development in the second half of the season.
