Chelsea loanee Malang Sarr made his debut on Wednesday night for Porto – and some Blues fans on Twitter were majorly impressed with his performance.

Frank Lampard’s side signed the 21-year-old defender back in August and he was sent out on a season-long loan to Portuguese giants Porto to play regularly.

Sarr started Porto’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City last night in the Champions League group stages, as Pep Guardola’s side turned on the heat in the second-half at the Etihad Stadium to earn three points.

Sarr impressed on his debut performance for Porto with a strong physical display and he had an intriguing battle with ex-PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez.

The left-footed centre-back slotted into a back three and had several duels with City’s right-winger Riyad Mahrez, who cut inside on several occasions and showcased his array of skill.

But Chelsea’s powerhouse loanee stood up well to the task by nullifying his threat for the majority of the contest and he put in some well-timed tackles.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media were left praising the French defender for his European display and one suggested he should have been kept in the squad this season at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is having difficulties in the backline at present and Sarr played over 100 games for top-flight side Nice in France, but the club decided a loan move would be the best for his development.
