Chelsea fans react to Callum Hudson-Odoi display against Southampton

Callum Hudson-Odoi was recalled to the Chelsea team on Boxing Day at home to Southampton – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter raged at him for his performance.

After winning away at Tottenham at the weekend, it looked like they had consolidated fourth in the table and were building some momentum.

But they were a million miles away from that display with a lacklustre effort against the Saints and were deservedly beaten.

Michael Obafemi gives the visitors the lead in the 31st minute with a left-footed striker to the top corner, but he was allowed to run at the Blues defence.

Meanwhile, Nathan Redmond scored a chipped finish in the second-half to shows the hosts how to attack in the final third.

Chelsea dominated the ball without very little threat and it’s a similar story of struggling to break down defences that sit tight.

There was a real lack of creativity from the wide areas and manager Frank Lampard needs to try lift his players before a trip to Arsenal on Sunday.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media were frustrated with the contribution of Hudson-Odoi on Thursday afternoon and believe he offered very little.

The 19-year-old attacker blew his opportunity back in the XI by showing nothing more than a couple of dribbles and ultimately the winger couldn’t threaten the Southampton goal.
