Blues defender Andreas Christensen said Chelsea players appreciate that Timo Werner kept working hard during his recent goal drought.
Having arrived at Chelsea last summer after raking 32 goals and 10 assists for RB Leipzig in 2019/20, Werner was always going to deal with high expectations.
Despite the brilliant start at Chelsea, Werner had a hard time adapting with the Premier League, particularly the physical aspect of it, as he previously admitted.
Werner has already been through several dry patches, including the 14-game goalless run that ended with his goal in Monday’s win over Newcastle United.
But according to Christensen, the rest of Chelsea players knew the goal was coming given the effort Werner had put in.

“Yes, maybe Timo needed that,” he told The Mirror about Werner’s goal against Newcastle.
“He always works hard, and I think the team appreciates that. That’s all we ask of him and that he keeps going.
“But I think it was more important for him personally to get his goal and keep scoring.
“Sooner or later it was going to happen. Even the amount of chances he has, he always pops up in the right places, so we knew he was going to get the chances, it was just a matter of time.
“Hopefully this was just the start.”

Even when he was not scoring goals, Werner often made the difference with his assists or winning important penalties.
With many teams defending very deep against Chelsea, he was always going to need time to adapt, and as Christensen pointed out, Werner clearlly puts in the effort.
