Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic said his injury was more serious than first thought but he is now close to a full recovery.
The 21-year-old’s first season at Chelsea has been troubled with several injuries.
He has had 16 appearances in the Premier League so far where he scored five goals and provided two assists, including the perfect hat-trick against Burnley in October.
However, his latest injury has kept him out of Frank Lampard’s team since the draw against Brighton on New Year’s Day.
Pulisic said it was an unusual injury and came out of nothing.
He told Chelsea’s official website: “It was really tough with this most recent one. I think that a lot of people didn’t realise how serious it was.
“It was a really freak injury in how it happened. It happened in training out of nothing really and it put me out a while.
“But I’m feeling good now, I’ve been training a lot and I’m just really excited to get back out on the field.
“It feels like it’s been a long time without football for everyone at the moment, but certainly for me because I had the injury on top of everything that’s going on now.”
Pulisic is now back in his home country the United States with his family.
But he said he has kept in touch with Chelsea teammates every day through group chats.
He added: “We are all just really excited to get back and play again. We are all a little bored I think!”
