'Deserves credit': Petr Cech says 27-year-old Chelsea player has been 'brilliant' in last few games

Petr Cech has described Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga as “brilliant” for the way he’s performed lately.

Kepa, 27, has been called into the Blues XI in the last few games while teammate Edouard Mendy has been away with Senegal competing in the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Spanish shot-stopper has done a great job in-between the sticks, keeping three clean sheets in the team’s three matches against Tottenham across the Carabao Cup semi-final and Premier League. In addition, he’s played in a 1-1 draw with Brighton and a 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the league.

Kepa’s confidence was at an all-time low just over a year ago, but there is no doubt the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as manager at Stamford Bridge has helped him get back on track.

He’s the second-choice goalkeeper at the club behind Mendy, but has six clean sheets in his 11 appearances so far this season.

Watford Hiring Roy Hodgson Is A Joke.

Chelsea’s technical and performance adviser Cech, who’s one of the world’s best goalkeepers from the last few decades, has showered Kepa with praise:

“He had to fill those big boots while Edou has been away, and he has been brilliant in all those games under even more scrutiny than usual. You need a strong team and every person ready to help. The goalkeeping group work so hard together to make sure they are all ready for when the moment comes, so Kepa deserves credit too,” Cech wrote.

Kepa an example to Chelsea teammates

Of course, Kepa would love to play every game and win back the number one position. However, the attitude he shows within the squad as the second-choice goalkeeper is to be admired and an example others should follow.

He’s taking his chances whenever given minutes on the pitch with performances that show how solid he can be. Unfortunately, he’s competing with a player in Mendy in the form of his life.

It shows how well Kepa’s played recently when even some Spurs fans praised his display against them in the Carabao Cup.

It’s going to be interesting to see where the 27-year-old’s future lies beyond this summer, as he’s good enough to play for so many sides at a top level.
