The people at Chelsea are “super” happy about signing Andrey Santos in January, whom they believe has since doubled his transfer value, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues allowed the 18-year-old to represent Brazil in the Sudamericano Sub-20 tournament in Colombia shortly after completing his transfer, and it has proved to be the right decision.
Santos captained the Brazil Under-20s to win the tournament and after scoring the winning goal in the final, he finished the campaign as the joint-top scorer alongside his compatriot Vitor Roque.
But not only that the young midfielder’s exceptional performance in the tournament may help him secure a UK work permit, Romano claims Chelsea are convinced Santos’ value has now skyrocketed.

“Chelsea feel the work permit will be approved soon, so they want him to stay with the first team,” the Italian journalist said on his YouTube channel when speaking about Santos’ situation.
“They’re super happy with Santos because they paid €12.5million (£11m) and feel the player’s value has risen up to over €25m (£22m) without playing a single minute in a Chelsea shirt yet.
“A fantastic deal for Chelsea. They love what they did with Santos and will continue with this kind of policy.
“Other clubs were there for Santos; Manchester City and the City Football Group, also Newcastle United, but the player wanted Chelsea and picked them over other clubs.”
Aside from Santos, the Blues have also brought in a couple of other highly-rated midfield talents such as Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Casadei.
Chukwuemeka has already made eight appearances in the Premier League this season, albeit mostly as a substitute, while Casadei has joined Championship side Reading on a short-term loan deal.
It is safe to say that with these three in their ranks, the future of Chelsea’s midfield looks very promising.
