Four impressive stats that might make Chelsea reconsider selling Kurt Zouma

Chelsea may just want to inspect Kurt Zouma’s statistics from last season before they decide to ship him on this summer.

Zouma is currently at the centre of two transfer sagas, involving Jules Kounde and West Ham United.

It’s been widely reported that the Frenchman has been offered to Sevilla as part of a swap deal for Kounde.

Yesterday, stories emerged about West Ham’s interest in the Blues defender.

Remaining in London appears to be the 26-year-old’s preference, whether that means staying at Stamford Bridge or moving across the city.

What’s Zouma got in the locker?

But before Chelsea make a decision on Zouma’s future, they would be wise to check out some of his Premier League data from 2020/21.

According to, no player in Frank Lampard or Thomas Tuchel’s squad won more aerial duels (87) than the centre-back.

He also managed more clearances (91) than any of his club colleagues.

Not to mention he was the highest scoring defender with five goals, making him the Blues third top goal marksman in the league.

Tuchel constructed an almost impenetrable fortress from January onwards and these type of soldiers will certainly come in handy if they are to challenge for the title.

There is no doubting Zouma is a dominate defensive wall, yet some have questioned his ability in possession.

They note the France international for making 1522 accurate short passes; only Cesar Azpilicueta (1600) and Thiago Silva (1690) made more.

Now what if we compare him to the man who could potentially be replaced by.

In terms of aerial duels, Kounde won 102 of his 169 battles.

However, he lost 67, whereas Zouma only lost 38.

For clearances and accurate short passes, the Sevilla star notched up 100 and 2027 respectively.

Although his numbers are greater, Kounde played ten more league games than his compatriot.

Based on this fact, there really isn’t much that separates the pair if stats are the soul assessment.
