Graham Potter includes three academy stars in Chelsea training despite huge squad

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has included three academy players in the first-team training session despite already having a huge squad to deal with.

A recent report from the Daily Mail suggested that Potter, who is used to a 11v11-type of training at Brighton, is struggling with the amount of players he currently has to work with at Chelsea.

It makes sense that having too many players can lead to problems for a manager.

So it is a surprise that rather than reducing the numbers, Potter has apparently added a few academy stars into the ranks.

These are Harvey Vale, Ben Elliott, and Harrison McMahon.

Vale and Elliott, in particular, are familiar faces in the first-team training, but some fans argued that this could be detrimental to the team.

Chelsea are under heavy pressure amid the abysmal run of results, in which they collected just two wins in the last 16 games in all competitions.

Fabrizio Romano even claimed that the next two games, against Leeds United and Borussia Dortmund, could be decisive for Potter’s future at Chelsea despite his retaining the support of the board.

Neither Vale, Elliott, nor McMahon will feature this weekend. Well, even at least several first-team players will have to be left out of the matchday squad.

Ideally, Potter should be focused on working on the players he plans to use for the next game only.
