'Has been fantastic': Shaun Wright-Phillips loves how 22-year-old Chelsea player has been playing recently

Shaun Wright-Phillips has explained why Chelsea’s Kai Havertz has really impressed recently with the way he’s been performing.

Havertz, who’s nailed down the starting centre-forward position lately at Stamford Bridge, has been one of the key performers for the Blues.

The 22-year-old was guilty of spurning some goalscoring opportunities in the weekend’s shock Premier League defeat at home to Brentford, but he’s one of the Blues individuals currently in great form. His manager Thomas Tuchel even named him as Chelsea’s most positive performer in the crushing 4-1 Brentford loss.

He’s now up to 11 goals for the season across all competitions. In addition, his all-round game while leading the line is majorly impressive and a sign of the kind of confidence he’s playing with.

Ex-Chelsea star Wright-Phillips has waxed lyrical about the recent impact of left-footed attacker Havertz:

James Officially Returns To HITC!

“Kai has been playing really well for Chelsea. He seems to fit the way Chelsea plays and it suits him a lot,” Wright-Phillips told GOAL.

“He always finds himself either off the shoulders of defenders or in the pockets between the centre-back and full-back. That’s hard for a defender to mark because it moves people around and creates space for his team-mates.

“He always seems to have defenders caught in two minds. He is fantastic running in behind and on the ball. His all-round game has been fantastic of late. He has just settled in now.”

Chelsea need more in-form players

The Blues were on a great winning run prior to the bizarre Brentford result, but it feels like the side need a few more players to hit top gear for upcoming clashes.

For Chelsea, this month will go a long way to shaping how this campaign finishes.

There is the Champions League quarter-final tie that starts with Real Madrid on Wednesday, as well as the FA Cup semi-final clash with Crystal Palace.

Havertz is one of the most in-form individuals around right now, and it would be great for some other attackers around him to rediscover their golden touch.
