Jorginho has claimed that Chelsea teammate Mateo Kovacic always surprises him with his dribbling.

Jorginho, 29, is one of several top quality midfielders currently playing at Stamford Bridge.

Kovacic, who cost the Blues £40million, is another that definitely fit into the category.

The 27-year-old central midfielder has arguably been the club’s player of the season so far, albeit he’s recently suffered a hamstring injury that has seen him miss the last few games. For him, the international break may have come at the right time to give him more to recover.

A big part of his game is centred around his ability to dribble forward at pace and break opposition’s lines. With the Croatian in the kind of form he’s been in this season, it’s easy for Chelsea to attack teams with speed and precision.

Jorginho has admitted Kovacic still baffles him with the way he keeps possession in certain situation.

“Mateo Kovacic is more of a playmaker with more technical skills to advance in small spaces, someone who enjoys having the ball at his feet. He’s more about creating play than Kante, who is there for stopping the opposition, even though Kante does a lot of playmaking too with all his speed and those quick legs of his. He’ll thrust in between two opponents, and when I think he’s lost it, no, he’s done it again. He never misses the ball,” Jorginho said.

Chelsea midfielder Kovacic is underrated

Kovacic remains desperately underrated by people outside of Chelsea.

The midfield talent has been shining this season at Stamford Bridge, with five Premier League assists already under his belt.

Blues manager Thomas Tuchel hailed the importance of Kovacic, Jorginho and N’Golo Kante last month.

It does feel like Kovacic doesn’t get the spotlight in the same way as other teammates. All Chelsea watchers know just how crucial he can be when he’s at his very best, though.

Best dribbler at the club?

Kovacic has to be firmly in this conversation. His agility and change of direction at great pace makes him such an attractive player to watch.

However, teammates such as Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi deserves a special mention.

Many suggest the Blues can be a little bland to watch but not when these types of players are performing.
