John Terry has massively praised Chelsea’s new signing Wesley Fofana by admitting he really likes him as a player.

The Blues pulled off some exceptional signings during a summer transfer window that shut yesterday, including securing 21-year-old star Fofana from Premier League rivals Leicester City.

He’s an extremely talented young centre-back that’s now been added to Thomas Tuchel’s squad at Stamford Bridge.

The Frenchman’s already had to deal with a long-term injury during his young career, but has looked a class act when he’s played in England for Leicester.

Gary Lineker has recently described him as one of the elite emerging centre-halves in the game.

John Terry praised Wesley Fofana

It’s a big tick against your name if Chelsea’s legend Terry showers you in praise, especially if you’re a Blues defender.

He’s given a glowing verdict on the club’s new centre-back signing, albeit suggests it may take time to hit top form.

“Wesley Fofana, welcome to Chelsea. Top young defender. I really like him and hope he can stay fit. It also might take a few weeks to get his match fitness back up. Good luck mate,” Terry wrote on Twitter.

With Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly both signed this summer, Chelsea’s new-look defence is beginning to take shape now.

Thiago Silva is the other defender you expect to form the best back three combination, but the sheer amount of fixtures means you can expect plenty of appearances for the likes of Trevoh Chalobah and Cesar Azpilicueta as well.

Fofana’s really got everything you want as a modern player in terms of pace, strength, aggression and quality on the ball.

He’s perhaps still improving his decision making as he matures and learns his own game, but it’s incredibly strong platform he’s building from.

Hopefully, he gets his Chelsea career off to a strong and confident start.
