Frank Lampard has hinted that Mason Mount is going to be a crucial player for him and Chelsea in the time he is at the club.

He claimed in his press conference after it being announced that he will take over the club for the rest of the season that he is looking forward to seeing the 24-year-old on the pitch again for the Blues.

Mount has been a shadow of the player who shone under Lampard at both Chelsea and Derby this season, and has seen injuries creep up on him in recent weeks.

He hasn’t started for quite a while now for the Blues, whilst he was an unused substitute against Liverpool on Tuesday.

This is despite interim coach at the time Bruno Saltor claiming he was fit enough to feature after returning from injury.

Lampard praises Mount

It is difficult to imagine Mount’s contract situation is not playing a part in things somewhere along the line. The England international is at a standstill regarding a new deal.

That will be no concern to Lampard right now though, who has claimed he is looking forward to trying to get the best out of the player again.

He said: “I don’t know enough about it to talk about it. It would be wrong for me to delve into anything. Mason has always been a fantastic player for me, among others – Reece James, Tammy Abraham, Tomori and others.

“I know he’s had a few injury problems. I know what I get from Mason. I want to see him perform on the pitch. He’s a huge player for Chelsea.”

It will be interesting to see if Mount comes back into the team instantly at the weekend against Wolves, a team he scored against in arguably the manager’s most impressive win in his first term at the club.
