Chelsea are limited to very few options if they decide to replace Graham Potter with Thomas Tuchel’s return considered very unlikely, according to The Evening Standard’s Nizaar Kinsella.
Despite Saturday’s shock defeat to Southampton, recent reports suggest that the Chelsea board remain confident in Potter’s long-term project.
Another poor result or two, however, could make appointing a new manager a very appealing option.
Some of the Chelsea supporters would even argue that such a decision should be made now.
While most would agree that sacking Potter would be a sensible move if the poor run continues, there are different views on his potential successor.
Chelsea, according to Kinsella, are not exactly spoilt for choice.

“Thomas Tuchel’s name was probably the most commonly brought up,” the journalist told the London Is Blue podcast when speaking about potential Potter’s replacement.
“But there’s no way he’s coming back. He’s fallen out with the owners.
“You don’t bring back a manager who’s not in with the owners.
“Jose Mourinho has been brought up a lot, but it’s obviously a huge gamble to bring back a manager [whom] most people believe isn’t at the top level anymore.
“After that, you’re either going [for a] caretaker or maybe [Mauricio] Pochettino whom you could convince.”
Kinsella also pointed out that appointing a new manager means starting from square one again for Chelsea.
This is obviously far from ideal considering the club invested so much in the January transfer window, and it revolves around Potter’s plans.
