Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Chelsea will continue to monitor Julian Nagelsmann as a potential option to manage the club.

He wrote on his Substack that while the board are still backing Graham Potter, there is long-term admiration for the German at Stamford Bridge.

The Bundesliga winner has recently been linked to a number of vacant or potentially vacant roles after his shock sacking at Bayern Munich at the end of last week.

He has been replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked by Todd Boehly early on into this season.

The 2021 Champions League winner has not been shy in expressing his desire to bring in current Blues coach Anthony Barry to work with him at Bayern.

While that saga is going on, ultimately one of the best young coaches in the world football is currently available.

Chelsea may consider Nagelsmann

Tottenham have been reportedly interested in hiring him, with them announcing the sacking of Antonio Conte last night.

However, Phillips has claimed that a stint at Chelsea should not be ruled out?, despite the backing of Potter this season.

He said: “As of right now, I’m told the Chelsea board continue to back Graham Potter and they are determined to stick with him.

“As always, things can change fast, and Chelsea will certainly keep an eye on the Julian Nagelsmann situation purely because he is a manager they have always appreciated anyway. But right now, they are only planning with Potter.”

Pressure had near-enough reached boiling point regarding the Chelsea manager after a run of form that saw them win just two games in 17.

While things have turned around in recent weeks, it will be extremely tough to turn down the opportunity to hire Nagelsmann now he is available.
