Chelsea secured a top-four finish with a win over Wolves at Stamford Bridge and Frank Lampard has sent a message to his new player Timo Werner.

The game was nerve-wracking until Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud gave Chelsea the 2-0 lead just before the half time.

The result means now Chelsea have officially finished the season in fourth, with Manchester United just edging them on goal difference.

The win was even sweeter as the new signing Timo Werner watched from the stands.

Speaking after the game, via Goal’s Nizaar Kinsella, Lampard said about the Germany international: “He was here today, so I hope he will have seen a team play with a lot of spirits.

“We saw off a difficult job today to be top four. I hope he has seen we have talents in the squad.”

Lampard went on to praise Mason Mount who played a major part in tonight’s win with a goal and an assist.

“He can definitely get better because he is so young,” the manager said about the 21-year-old.

“When a player makes his breakthrough year and plays consistently then people treat them older than they are.”

“You saw his technique on the free-kick.”

The Blues will not have much time to celebrate, however, as they will have another big game, the FA Cup final against Arsenal on August 1.

A domestic cup trophy, which would be Lampard’s first trophy as a manager, would make this season even more remarkable.
