Cesar Azpilicueta earned the love and admiration from his Chelsea teammates following the trip to Liverpool on Saturday.
Azpilicueta played the final flourishes of the contest at Anfield yesterday, with the defender ensuring his side’s seventh Premier League clean sheet this season.
But the Spaniard’s contribution towards keeping Jurgen Klopp’s men at bay was overshadowed by a much bigger achievement.
By stepping out in front of the away crowd, the 33-year-old made his 500th appearance for Chelsea.
Only five others have played more times in a blue jersey than Azpilicueta, with the Spaniard joining an illustrious half-millennium club.
After the dust of the draw had settled, the full-back celebrated his achievement via an Instagram post.
“I am really proud, honoured and humbled to have reached 500 games as a Blue,” wrote the captain in the caption alongside a montage of his best moments in a Chelsea jersey.
Understandably, the skipper received a stream of appreciate in the comments, many of those coming from his co-workers.
New signing Mykhailo Mudryk described the Spanish international as a ‘legend’, whilst Kai Havertz simply sent the heart emoji.
Mudryk’s description is probably the best way to describe Azpilicueta, who has given 100% since the day he set foot in Stamford Bridge over a decade ago.
He might be coming towards the end of his tenure, but Azpi’s accomplishments will live long in the memory.
