‘Look closely’: £96,000-a-week Chelsea player hits back at fan after being told Pochettino should drop him

Thiago Silva has hit back at a Chelsea supporter on Instagram who believes Mauricio Pochettino should drop the Brazilian.

It came after Chelsea suffered a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

So, what did Thiago Silva respond with after Chelsea tasted defeat? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, a fan account by the name of Talk CFC believes Chelsea would be better off without the £96,000-a-week man in the starting XI as he prohibits the Blues from using a back four.

While Silva took the criticism professionally and encouraged Talk CFC to “put the pressure on” his shoulders, he pointed out that Pochettino has already instructed Chelsea to play as a back four.

The South American wrote: “If you look closely at the game, we are playing with a line of four my friend! But there’s no problem in assuming that I’m also responsible for the defeat. Put the pressure on me. No problem yesterday!”

Silva managed to defend himself but also remain respectable to the fan’s opinion, showing exactly why he is a leader in the dressing room.

Thiago Silva criticism seems bizarre after 1-0 Chelsea defeat

In our view, anyone who thinks Silva is the problem is well wide of the mark.

The 38-year-old is still performing to a high level in the Premier League despite his age, and we feel the issue lies more with Pochettino’s formation.

Silva is often left exposed, and the fact he might sometimes get caught out in the Argentine’s setup is not as much to do with him, but the space afforded to opponents ahead of him – as seen before Anthony Elanga’s goal on Saturday.

If Chelsea’s attackers were a bit more clinical as well, then perhaps less of the focus would be on the backline, who have not been terrible by any means so far this season.

Hopefully, Silva can help Chelsea bounce back against Bournemouth on Sunday.
