Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has spoken out after reports broke that Chelsea showed interested in signing his centre-back, Niklas Sule.

BILD suggested that Chelsea had added the dominate defender to their transfer wish list along with Dayot Upamencano and David Alaba.

Flick responded to the recent developments in his press conference that was broadcasted on Bayern’s Facebook page.

“If ever clubs are interested in signing a player that speaks for the quality of that player,” he explained. “All I said is that the team and the defence are doing a really good job. Particularly in centre back. Niklas is a great option for us.

“I’m really happy with how he’s developing at the minute. He’s getting better and better.

“I’m very happy he’s in our team. He has a contract for this season and the next. We will see how this evolves and see what he considers is best for his future. He’s a player I can always rely on.”

Sule signed for Bayern from Hoffenheim in 2017 for an undisclosed fee on a five-year deal.

He has since played over 100 games for the German champions and won 10 trophies.

Chelsea would be keen on adding a man of his physical presence to their backline and may monitor his movements in-depth as summer draws closer.

The Blues have preferenced Sule’s teammate Alaba but if they fail on that front, then the German international could become their number one target.

There are currently four senior centre backs permanently on the books at Stamford Bridge with a handful of names also out on loan.

Not all of these are likely to still be at Chelsea come the end of the campaign.

Fikayo Tomori could be snatched up indefinitely by AC Milan as long as continues to impress in the Italian capital.

If Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen are continuously left out by Thomas Tuchel, they may be too searching for an exit route.

From what I’ve seen of this man mountain, I’m quietly impressed. Sule is certainly a unit, but a deceivingly agile one.

He certainly wouldn’t be my first choice but if all else fails, there are certainly worse options out there.
