Marc Cucurella has urged Chelsea fans to stick by the team despite their poor form following another defeat at the weekend.

The 24-year-old took to Instagram to issue the message after their loss against Wolves on Saturday saw them remain in the bottom half of the table.

Cucurella started ahead of recognised first-choice Ben Chilwell at the weekend, although it is likely that this has been done for rotation ahead of the Champions League quarter-final with Real Madrid.

The England international has been in superb form ever since returning from injury a few months ago, making him one of the first name on the teamsheet in recent weeks.

However, the Spain international made a rare appearance in his more favoured left-back role, although it was a similar story for the Blues.

Chelsea were defeated 1-0 by Wolves in Frank Lampard’s second debut in the dugout on Saturday. While the goal was one of real class, it was a game of very few opportunities again for the Blues.

The result left them in the bottom half of the table, further solidifying their status as having nothing to play for domestically anymore this season.

Instead, their ambitions this season lie in the Champions League, where they will have to bring out their best displays of the season against Real Madrid if they want to advance.

Cucurella has called for the fanbase to stick by their team if they are to continue a miracle run towards the final of that competition.

He said: “Tough times. But we need to stick together.”

If the Spaniard is to play against Madrid in either leg, it is likely to be on the left of a back three as the Blues attempt to nullify the threat brought to them by their opponents and defending champions of Europe.
