Reece James was confirmed as Chelsea’s new club captain yesterday, which has prompted a three-word response from Mason Mount.
The Blues announced on their official website on Wednesday that Reece James, 23, is the new permanent captain.
Chelsea have been in very safe hands with Cesar Azpilicueta as the club’s skipper in recent years, but his move to Atletico Madrid this summer left the senior role vacant.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino, along with the club, have decided James is the right candidate to step into the role.
The right-back knows the club inside out after his rise through the system Cobham, so let’s hope he can emulate John Terry as a very successful academy graduate to captain the first team.

James uploaded a heartfelt post on Instagram after the confirmation he’s become the new captain.
Mason Mount, who Chelsea sold to Manchester United this summer, issued a three-word reaction in the comment section.
“So proud brother,” Mount wrote.

Mount, 24, is a fellow Chelsea academy graduate that many tipped to become the future captain one day. Instead, he’s now a Manchester United player and will look to hit the ground running at Old Trafford this season.
Thankfully, the Blues are in a great position with James.

There may have been a concern when Chelsea got rid of a poster boy in Mount this summer, but it turns out there’s still a great core of from the academy in this side.
We saw the likes of James, Levi Colwill, Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah all impress during this summer’s pre-season tour of the United States.
Blues defender Chalobah recently told the club’s official website he hopes James becomes the Chelsea captain. Our guess is this will be a popular choice within the young dressing room.
