Mason Mount will captain Chelsea again in the future according to Gilmour

Billy Gilmour believes Mason Mount will have more opportunity to captain Chelsea again in the future with all Blues youngsters supporting him.

Most Blues fans must be pleasantly surprised as Chelsea announced their line-up an hour before their FA Cup tie against Luton Town on January 24.

Mount was set to captain the team for the first time. The youngest Chelsea captain at the age of just 22 since John Terry in 2001.

Obviously, Frank Lampard’s sacking just a day after the 3-1 win over Luton changed the situation, although Thomas Tuchel has spoken very highly about Mount’s mentality as well.

Mount has the support from Chelsea youngsters, though, according to Gilmour who believes the England international will wear the Chelsea armband again in the future.

“Mason, he always gives 100 percent every game and training sessions, always wants to do well,” Gilmour told Chelsea’s official website.

“When he captained [the team], it was a massive day for him. He must be so proud.

“A young kid coming through the youth, going on loan and coming back to play and captained the team — it is amazing.

“We’re all happy for him, all the youngsters, and happy we won the game — a 100 percent captain win rate [smiles].

“I’m sure there’s going to be more opportunity for him in the future.”

Mount himself previously said leading Chelsea was “something he dreamt about as a young boy” and he hopes to wear the armband again (Chelsea’s official website).

At the moment, he still has the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Jorginho who look set to be regulars under Tuchel ahead of him.

However, he certainly going to be a strong candidate when Chelsea eventually need a new captain.

When people speak about Mount, they always mention how he always gives 100 percent, including Tuchel who recently described him as someone who “leaves his heart on the pitch”.

If Terry, the most successful captain in the club’s history, has given his seal of approval (through his comment on Instagram), then you know Mount has proved he’s Chelsea captain material.
